Girls' GAA Latest

about:blank

In their first year of competing, the DPETNS Girls' GAA team has enjoyed great success on the field, qualifying for the quarter finals in their group. We are so proud of our girls and the time and effort that they have put in over the past few months. In celebration of this growth and development of girls' GAA in the Donabate area, the teachers of DPETNS  and Scoil Phadraic Cailíní are proud and delighted to announce an inter-school friendly match between the two teams to demonstrate their skill and determination. The match will take place on Thursday 23rd of May at 3pm at the Ballamastone pitch. We hope to see you there on the day to support and encourage the girls!

Special Needs Awareness Fortnight

“We all stand out but we all fit in” is the winning motto from Ella O'Callaghan and Alannah France in 4th class, and a fitting conclusion to our first ever Special Needs Awareness Fortnight in the school.

The fortnight was full of activities including:

- visiting speakers Adam Harris, Garreth Culleton and Brian Dalton talking to the children at school assemblies
- teachers discussing relevant topics in the classroom
- all children taking part in completing the school jigsaw and composing their own mottos

The winning motto and completed jigsaw were unveiled at our Special Needs Awareness Information coffee morning on the final Friday. The coffee morning provided an opportunity for parents to meet with personnel from visiting support groups such as Snowflakes, Special Olympics, St. Michael’s House, Arch Clubs, and CASA, while sampling from the delicious array of cakes on offer. We also had a voluntary donation box which raised a whopping €514.17 which will go a huge way to supporting special educational needs provision in DPETNS.

The Jigsaw and Motto are undergoing final preparations but will be permanently displayed in Area 9 in the next few weeks.

Whole School Evaluation 2012

During September 2012 we were visited by three inspectors from the DES who observed the teaching and learning in our school.  The results of their inspection have now been published and you can read the full report on the DES website. It is a very thorough report highlighting both areas of strength and areas for improvement. Overall, we are very pleased with the report which acknowledges the hard work of our school community through the years and also gives us direction and focus for what we need to improve. We welcome parents comments on the report – please email me at wse@dpetns.ie, if you wish.

Outdoor Classroom

Outdoor Classroom

Our outdoor classroom is progressing very well and is reaching an exciting stage of the building process.

Last week students, past pupils, staff, board and PTA members (past and present) received a leaf to design and paint which will form part of the family tree mosaic that is now taking shape on the interior wall of the classroom.

Recently we also held a competition in the school to design the tops of the work benches in the classroom.  The four benches are designed to represent the four strands of our Learn Together Curriculum: Equality and Justice, Ethics and The Environment, Belief Systems and Moral and Spiritual Development.
