Ger’s 2nd Class News

It has been a busy time in our 2nd Class.  We have settled in well and have been working really hard since September.  Of course we have managed to have some fun too!  Have a look at some of the things we have been getting up to…..

While learning about Autumn, we went on an Autumn hunt down to the estuary, where we collected leaves, pine cones and examined the change in seasons.  Then we did some leaf rubbings in Art, experimenting with different types of pencils, pens, oil pastels etc

We were also examining the weather and how the change in seasons has affected it.  We kept a weather diary each day for a week and compared it with the weather forecast from RTE.  Some children researched the area of extreme weather for their homework too.

In art we have been working with clay to make some Halloween Monsters.  We learned how to make a pinch pot as a head and mouth and then added our own details to really bring them to life.

We have been very lucky to have a visiting Drama teacher for the last few weeks.  She has been teaching us all about the drama triangle and how to use our voices, bodies and imagination to create characters and scenes.

 

And finally as Halloween is nearly upon us, we examined using colour in art to create a sunset and then the effect of a silhouetted haunted house……
