Green Schools

DPETNS is proud to play an active and long standing role in An Taisce’s Green Schools Programme.  To date we have been awarded recognition for work done on the themes of Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel and Climate Change.  Our Green Schools Committee continue to work hard every year to ensure we maintain our flags. They carry out regular audits in classrooms and generally throughout the school with regards to waste segregation, energy and water conservation. Every week they promote ‘W.O.W -Walk On Wednesday’ where we are all encouraged to walk, scoot or cycle to and from school. In fact it’s fair to say that our Green Schools Committee is very much responsible for keeping us all on our toes with regards to all things green!

In 2017/2018 a Leabhar Glas was introduced in the junior classes as a home school link so that our children could take pride in sharing their Green School actions and passions. Children have engaged in class based learning, optional involvement in Green School projects and competitions, litter picks, planting and bird feeding, to mention just a few of this year’s initiatives.
